The NSPCC in Northern Ireland runs services across the UK and the Channel Islands, including therapeutic services for young people who have experienced abuse, domestic violence projects and services for supporting families.

Our local services in Northern Ireland focus on the most acute forms of abuse and the most vulnerable, highest-risk children. The services provided include treatment for children who have experienced abuse, as well as support for those who have been exposed to domestic violence. The NSPCC also provides support for looked after children, young people in schools, and help for young witnesses who have to go through the trauma of giving evidence in criminal trials.

The generous support from the public, as well as government funding has also allowed us to develop our NSPCC Helpline for adults with concerns about a child, enabling them to contact us by phone, email and the internet. Our Helpline service is UK-wide, enabling us to hear from concerned adults seeking advice and help in your town, your village. Since the appeal launched in 2008, we have answered more than 1721 calls from adults with concerns about a child in Northern Ireland.

Our ChildLine service for young people is also UK-wide, but we hear from many young people in Northern Ireland. The counselling service for children and young people enables them to access help, advice and information via a number of channels including phone, email and 1-2-1 chat. Since the appeal launched in 2008, we have received in the region of 16,309 landline calls from Northern Ireland. Landline and payphone calls represent approximately 22 per cent of the overall young people that contact ChildLine, so this can only ever give an indication of the situation.

Through developing our training and consultancy services, professionals working with children will be able to access more training and opportunities to learn and share best practice. Our policy and research team conduct studies into child protection in the country, as well as lobbying parliament for legislation to help keep local children safe.
